This undated photo taken by the Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force catches fishermen using the prohibited ring net in northern Iloilo’s waters. A ring net is a surrounding net the form of which is intermediate hybrid between a purse seine and a lampara net: like on a purse seine, rings at the lower edge of the net allow using a purse line to close it under the fish (pursing) and like on a lampara net, there is a central bunt (with smaller mesh) in which the capture concentrates as the two wings are hauled together and the leadline being shorter than the floatline give somehow a spoon-shape as in lamapara net. ILOILO PROVINCIAL BANTAY DAGAT PHOTO Lastyear the provincial government sought a radar from the Philippine AtmosphericGeophysical and Astronomical Services Administration that it could use to monitorillegal activities or movements in the waters of Iloilo and the Visayan Sea. Themunicipal waters of northern Iloilo towns – Carles, Balasan, Estancia, Batad,San Dionisio, Concepcion, Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, and Banate – are part of themarine resource-rich Visayan Sea. Between2016 to 2018, BFAR Region 6 filed 470 complaints against illegal fishing vesseloperators. Four hundred were already resolved as of 2019. I didn’t have time to show my worth at Man Utd – Sanchez

first_imgRelatedPosts Vidal lands in Milan to complete move from Barca to Inter Ighalo: My best moment as ‘Red Devil’ EPL: Crystal Palace stun sloppy Man U Chile striker, Alexis Sanchez, on Tuesday said he was not given a proper chance to succeed at Manchester United. The 30-year-old played only 31 of 77 possible games in his 19 months at Old Trafford and signed a season-long loan deal with Inter Milan. Sanchez said: “I was happy at Manchester United but I’ve always said to my friends I want to play. “If they would let me play, I’ll do my best. “Sometimes I’d play 60 minutes then I wouldn’t play the next game, and I didn’t know why.’’ He was one of the biggest stars at Arsenal, where he scored 80 goals in 166 matches. A big-money move to United seemed a step up and Sanchez said he did not regret the decision, even if Jose Mourinho, in particular, did not seem to rate him quite so highly as others. He said: “I’m very happy I went to Manchester United. “I’ve always said that it’s the club that’s won the most in England. “When I went to Arsenal it was fantastic. “I was happy there, but United were growing at the time, they were buying players to win something. “I wanted to join them and win everything. “I did not regret going there.’’Tags: Alexis SanchezChileInter MilanManchester Unitedlast_img read more

Successful golf clubs reveal their strategies

first_img Successful golf clubs have revealed their methods of recruiting and retaining new members: they’re flexible, friendly and they offer low-cost ways to try the game. These key factors have emerged from research commissioned by England Golf to support the development of its new and ambitious Strategic Plan. The plan sets out to inspire people of all ages to make golf a part of their life. Its ambitions include reversing the trend of declining club membership and working towards a target of 750,000 golf club members in England by 2020.A total of 55 clubs were interviewed for the research project, of which 70% were private members’ clubs, 24% proprietary and 6% pay and play. All had all increased their memberships during 2012 and seen that hold firm in 2013. In many cases it has increased again.Richard Flint, England Golf’s Club Services and Development Director, said:  “These clubs, which are all bucking the national trend, have been very generous by describing their successful strategies and we can now share this best practice to grow the game.”The research was carried out by SPORTS MARKETING SURVEYS INC. which concludes: “The three key principles which our interviewees have applied could easily be deployed across the country and could potentially reap rich rewards without profoundly changing the way the clubs operate.”The clubs all placed emphasis on:•    Flexible membership packages – these recognised that one package no longer fits all and that the member who plays occasionally is still a member worth having. These schemes particularly target the younger golfer, aged up to 40.•    Friendliness – a friendly, convivial environment, where it is easy to socialise and find people to have a round of golf with, was found to be hugely important in attracting new members. Some relaxing of the rules, for example concerning jeans, trainers and mobile phones, was common.•    Low-cost ways to get into golf – clubs sought ways to help people try golf without a big initial expense. These include ‘have a go’ days, involving existing members and offering an opportunity to enjoy the facilities, and trial memberships. Many of the clubs also made use of outside help to promote their club amongst members or visitors, for example by achieving the GolfMark award for junior and beginner-friendly facilities, and by working with England Golf’s Club Services department and with their County Golf Partnership. Most make their facilities available commercially, say for weddings or conferences; and many are seeking to build up a database of visitors’ details, often using electronic communication. 7 Jan 2014 Successful golf clubs reveal their strategies last_img read more

Sterrett rolls past Schiller for middle school crown

first_imgby Malik VincentLast year, Pittsburgh Schiller (6-8) moved past east side foe Sterrett in the semifinals to move on and win the city title.Sterrett was determined to avenge that, this year.“This was an important win for our guys because they’re who scratched us out of the playoffs last year,” Sterrett coach Orlando Bellisario said. “It was huge for the guys who were seventh graders last year and who are eighth graders now. It was a great way for them to end their middle school days and move on to the next level.” 2012 BOYS CHAMPS—The Sterrett Cougars show off their trophy after winning the City League Middle School Championship with a 46-30 win over Schiller Jan. 26 at Allderdice. They were led by Ramon Creighton, who was one of those guys who saw the loss last year. He scored a game-high 22 points in their 46-30 victory over Schiller Jan 26.“I can’t say enough about the game that Ramon had,” Bellisario added. “He really showed us how he can be a leader. It was a very impressive showing from him.”Sterrett was led, defensively, by first-year eight grader Martaz Arrington who had 8 steals. Also a first-year player, Rashawn Edmonds—who transferred to Sterrett after Pittsburgh Lincoln closed at the end of last school year—was a big presence on the boards with a team-high 9 rebounds.“It was amazing how the first-year guys that we have stepped up in a huge way,” coach said.” “They have been one of the key components to the success of this season. This was the first opportunity for the Sterrett student body to see their home team. Sterrett‘s principal Sarah Sumpter said that there’s “not enough seating capacity in their gymnasium.” So, students are not allowed to attend the games unless accompanied by a parent. That was certainly not the case at Allderdice in the title match.“We supplied transportation for all the students and teachers who were interested in attending,” Sumpter said. “There was tons of excitement from the kids when they found out that we were going to get them there. The participation from them ended up being great, we filled our entire side of the gym at Allderdice.”When the win came, according to Sumpter, there was an overwhelming feeling of joy amongst the kids.“It just added to the feeling when we knew they would win,” she said. “The kids made posters and flyers and wore stickers on their faces to support their team. It turned out to be a tremendous experience for our student body.”(Malik Vincent can be reached via e-mail: mvincent@newpittsburghcourier.com and on Twitter @malikvincent.)last_img read more

Ms. Serena Williams…Kev tried to tell ya! (July 17)

first_imgLike us at https://www.facebook.com/pages/New-Pittsburgh-Courier/143866755628836?ref=hlFollow @NewPghCourier on Twitter  https://twitter.com/NewPghCourier by Bill Neal, For New Pittsburgh Courier:10—By now even those of you that live under that proverbial rock have tuned into the No. 1 sports talk show in Western PA, “Soul Take—Champions Live” starring yours truly and Kevin Cameron. Well, Kev tried in vain to get me and two elite tennis players, Joe Washington and Carmen Filloy, that the supreme Serena should not play in the doubles match with Andy Murray but rather save her game to make the historic move to catch Margaret Court to become the greatest of all-time. But nooooo, Ms. Williams would have it her way, thus the loss to Simona Halep. But that’s not the worst of it. Now we have to listen to “Captain” Cameron being right for now and forever. Help me Lord, help me!:09—Just so you’re reminded that what I really know about tennis you can write in the palm of your racquet hand, here’s this… Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in a historic, first-time ever, 5-hour, 5-set tiebreaker match to win the Men’s Singles Championship at Wimbledon on Sunday. Whew!:08—Here we go, Steelers, here we go! And go they will, straight to the Super Bowl! Yeah, I said it! And the Black and Gold lace ‘em up when they report to training camp on Thursday, July 25 for the 54th straight year at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. The first practice open to the public will be Friday, the 26th. Pittsburgh, let’s do this. Right here…Right now!:07—Hello, hello, hello…speak up, I can’t hear you. Who? Oh, listen and listen good! Le’Veon and Antonio don’t live here no more!!!:06—Look, I like the Pirates as much as the next guy. A little here, a little there. And, of course, you gotta love the wings at the park. But it looks like we’re heading down that road again. I know you’ve been caught up in the great hitting before the All-Star Game. But I told you coming out of training camp what has always been a staple in baseball. Great pitching beats great hitting every day of the week. And – we – don’t – have – the – pitching. But no worries, I’ll keep the wings.:05—Speaking of baseball—and I was—I told you I didn’t think Josh Bell could deliver at the Home Run Derby. That thing is a different thing. If you know what I mean.:04—Oh, one more baseball thing…a shoutout and blessings to the legendary flame thrower Bob Gibson. He’s fighting pancreatic cancer. If the St. Louis great fights cancer the way he did opposing hitters he’ll win hands down.:03—USA Women’s Championship Soccer team. It’s all been said but know this—you’re bad, you’re bold, you’re beautiful and they better pay you your well-deserved money! Period. End of story. C’mon, women!!!:02—If you saw the ESPYs you know this already. If you didn’t you can only try to understand what I am going to tell you. The Pat Tillman Award for Service was given to a woman that lost a leg in Iraq and went on to climb Mt. Everest among many other unbelievable things, Kirstie Ennis. And the Jimmy V. Award went to a man, Rob Mendez, born without arms or legs. His only desire in life since he couldn’t play was to coach. After years of trying to get a job, his first season as the Head Coach of the J.V. football team at Prospect High School in San Jose, Calif., saw his team go 8-2 last year and his kids will run through a brick wall for him. So – you – better – not – ever – complain – about – anything – else- mannnn!!!:01—As always, in closing, gather yourself, your family, your friends and vote Donald Trump out of office. It’s truly a matter of life and death!:00—GAME OVER.last_img read more
